Christmastime is special in Nevada and many cities pull out all the stops to decorate and display holiday spirit. Here are eight cities that really believe in Christmas magic.
1. Boulder City
Boulder City, just by the Hoover Dam, holds an annual tree lighting ceremony at Frank Crowe Park. This is followed by "Santa's Electric Parade" along the Historic Nevada Way. Lights and decorations can be found at the many businesses along the main road through the town.
2. Virginia City
Virginia City holds a "Christmas in the Comstock" event every year featuring a lights parade, holiday pub crawl, crafts fairs and the much loved V&T Candy Cane Express train ride. If you love Christmas with a "Western Victorian" flair, this is the place for you!
3. Henderson
The City of Henderson holds their annual WinterFest, which includes a concert by the Henderson Symphony Orchestra, a tree lighting ceremony with the mayor and Santa and an evening Christmas light parade down the main street in town. Other events include crafts fairs, carolers and visits by Santa.
4. Carson City
Carson City, the capital of Nevada, holds an annual tree lighting ceremony at the Governor's Mansion, and government buildings are part of the "Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights," now in 27th year. The downtown area also hosts a Christmas Faire and beginning in 2016, a Holiday Crawl.
5. Elko
Elko hosts many Christmas events in town, such as the Khoury's Market "Winter Fest" which features a high school choir performance, Santa Claus, lots of Christmas goodies to eat and a fireworks show. There's also a "Snowflake Festival" 5K that culimiantes in a Parade of Lights through Downtown Elko.
6. Genoa
Genoans love Christmas and this small town gets into the holiday spirit with lights everywhere. There is a tree lighting in the middle of town each year, coupled with singing carols along the main street, and a town "breakfast with Santa."
7. Reno
Reno hold many events for Christmas. Some include the 39 North Pole Village at the Victorian Square in Sparks with thousands of lights, food trucks and vendors for all your gift shopping. WinterFest at the Greater Nevada Field includes a photo opportunity with Santa, ice skating, Christmas tree lot, and a Holiday Express train. The Reno Santa Crawl is the largest event in the U.S. and takes place in downtown Reno. And of course, there are incredible Christmas lights displays all over town, including the "leaning" official Reno Christmas tree.
8. Las Vegas
If there's any city that knows how to do Christmas in style, it's Las Vegas. There are Christmas decorations everywhere, on top of the "already in place" lights that are there all year long. Major casinos along the Las Vegas Strip have their own unique decorations. Particular ones to seek out are the Conservatory at the Bellagio which year has an incredible and unique Christmas display.
If you travel off Strip going towards the Fremont Street Experience. Much like the Strip. Fremont is known for its lights all year long, so it kicks it up a notch for the holidays with a big lighted Christmas Tree and even more lights!
