Sometimes the absolute best food comes from places that don’t necessarily “shine” when you walk or drive past them on the street. They become busy from local word-of-mouth and people willing to stop in and give them a try despite the bland exterior. Here are 7 restaurants that you may have passed by but never suspected how wonderful they are.
1. Crawfish Asian Cuisine (Reno)
This place, known for their delicious Chinese food is located in a shopping center so it often gets overlooked due to a less flashy exterior. Their specialty is, of course, crawfish, as well as other seafood dishes. The address is 1296 East Plumb Lane, Suite H.
2. SkinnyFATS (Las Vegas)
SkinnyFATS has three locations now in Las Vegas and the specialty is healthy food that's gorgeous to look at (and looks WAY more calorie heavy than it actually is, always a plus!) You can get nutritional info on their website for the different items on the menu if you're diet conscious. Breakfast is served all day, as well a sandwiches, flatbread pizzas, burgers salads and more. Locations are 8680 West Warm Springs Road,; 6261 Dean Martin Drive; and 6475 North Decatur Boulevard.
3. Cool Beans Coffee & Ice Cream (Elko)
This delightful little spot doesn't look like much from the outside, but you'll find their specialty drinks and baked goods to die for! It's a local's favorite but also well loved by travelers driving through the state who need a pleasant place to relax and grab some caffeine. Check them out at 673 Cimarron Way.
4. Rock'N'oodles (Las Vegas)
This tiny restaurant is located in the artsy downtown area of Las Vegas. Their menu is a mouthwatering selection of "traditional" noodle dishes with a twist, like "Sweet Home Alabama" which combines macaroni and cheese with smoked gouda, purple onions and bacon, topped with buttermilk marinated popcorn chicken and barbecue sauce. Rock'N'oodles is located at 1108 South 3rd Street.
5. Todd's Unique Dining (Henderson)
This restaurant deserves its name, with a variable gourmet menu featuring proteins like duck, steak, short ribs and fish. It's situated inside of a large strip mall so it's easy to miss it and its lovely romantic interior. Located at 4350 East Sunset Road.
6. Bistro 7 (Reno)
Bistro 7 is many times overlooked by diners because of its location so if you're in the Reno area, you must give it a try! Dishes are focused on using the restaurant's wood oven and options include wood-fired pizzas, steaks, seafood and pasta. Look for them at 7111 South Virginia Street.
7. The Chicken Shack (Boulder City)
Locals love this spot which definitely is not glamorous! The food is freshly cooked chicken wings, strips and traditional favorites like chili cheese fries. The Chicken Shack is located at 1112 Nevada Highway.
