This year’s summer vacations may have been put on hold due to…well, everything…but there’s still at least one place where you can go for a relaxing stay that’s not too far from home but feels like it’s worlds away. Bring your whole household for a family getaway or leave the family at home and enjoy a romantic stay with your significant other. No matter how you visit, you’ll be enchanted by this rental vacation property and its charming surroundings.
Located in rural Burt County between Omaha and Sioux City, Willow Valley Ranch is the peaceful getaway you've been waiting for. It's situated on seven acres of land, which is all yours for as long as you stay.
Unlike some other country getaways, the owners don't live in another building on the property or even down the road. The vacation home offers self-check-in with a keypad lock. In fact, if you bring all of the supplies you need for your stay, you can avoid contact with all humans other than the ones you came with.
Of course, if you forgot something or just want to venture back into civilization for a bit, Tekamah is nearby. This sleepy town of just over 1700 residents happens to have a number of essential businesses, including a grocery store, several restaurants, a hardware store, and a Dollar General, so your bases are pretty much covered.
There are plenty of other great local businesses in the area to visit, including coffee shops, a candle/chocolate/gift shop, two wineries, and a hunting outfitter.

Once you're settled in, you'll want to explore the lovely ranch house. The interior is clean and modern, but there are a few charming rural-style features that will remind you that you're out in the country.
Don't bring your work with you out here. There's no wifi out here, and cell phone service is spotty at best. This is truly an opportunity to unplug from everything. However, you won't be lacking for entertainment; there are a TV and a DVD player in the living room, complete with a collection of movies for all ages.
The home sleeps 7-8 adults comfortably, or 8-10 people if some of them are children. There are three bedrooms in addition to a sleeper sofa in the living room and a futon in the sunroom.
All of the basics are provided for you. Linens, cookware, silverware, plates and cups, paper products, two coffeemakers, and even some coffee and sweetener will be waiting for you when you arrive. A washer and dryer are also available for you to use, and detergent is provided.
When you get up in the morning, make yourself a cup of coffee and hang out in the sunroom to greet the day. Later, relax on the deck and maybe even cook up your lunch on the provided grill.
If you're looking forward to getting out and enjoying nature, you can do so at Summit Lake State Recreation Area, which is just a few minutes away. Excellent fishing opportunities, swimming, hiking or biking, and no-wake boating are some of the most popular activities here.
You can also find plenty of natural beauty right there on the property. There are seven acres to explore, including a relaxing pond where you can feed a variety of fish...
...And plenty of open spaces to wander. Going for a walk around the property is sure to relax you and remind you of just how lovely the Nebraska countryside is. Keep an eye out for wildlife - there are tons of bird species and deer out here.
Some of the vacation home's best features are right outside the back door. The patio features a fire pit surrounded by chairs where you can sit down, relax, enjoy a cold drink and conversation, and even make s'mores with the provided sticks.
Learn more about this gorgeous getaway on the property’s website or Facebook page. Doesn’t this look like the perfect place to spend a summer weekend (or maybe a couple of weeks)?
One of the aforementioned local Tekamah businesses is this charming shop where you can buy handmade chocolates, gifts, antiques, flowers, and much more.
