Nebraska’s wine industry has really heated up over the last couple of decades. It’s now possible to find delicious local wine just about everywhere you go in the state. But this place in Brownville is one that should definitely be on your must-visit list.
The little town of Brownville, located in the far southeastern corner of Nebraska, is full of museums, little shops, a popular twice-yearly flea market....and Whiskey Run Creek Winery.
The business takes its name from Whiskey Run Creek, which actually runs directly under the building. In a feat of engineering and ingenuity, a century-old barn was moved from its original farm home to a reinforced platform above the creek.
This plot of land was the site of one of Nebraska's first wineries, so it seemed like the perfect location for the barn-turned-winery. The old underground brick storage spaces were cleared up and restored, which adds another element of wonder to this unique place.
The winery has been turning out delicious local wines since it opened in 2002. The staff is always eager to explain the different types of wine and make recommendations.
The history of this place, the beauty of the surroundings, and the winery and distillery's delicious products make this one of the most charming places to visit in the state.
You can visit Whiskey Run Creek Winery and Distillery Thursday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Find out more about this unique destination on its website or Facebook page.
