Camping season is finally here again, and we couldn’t be more excited to get out there and enjoy spending some time in fun new places. If you want to be out in nature but aren’t really looking for a remote rural adventure, this eastern Nebraska location is a great compromise. It combines camping of all types with a huge water park and other fun facilities.
Eugene T. Mahoney State Park is located smack dab between Omaha and Lincoln in Ashland. This place is truly massive, and it's been one of Nebraska's favorite state parks for many years.
If you prefer to bring your own lodging, there are 149 camping pads, all with electrical hookups. Tent camping and modern camping are in the same area here; some of the pads feature flat, grassy patches for setting up a tent.
However, many visitors prefer to "camp" in one of the park's 57 cabins. They're available with one to six bedrooms to fit every size family. There's also a lodge on site if you prefer more of a hotel-like experience.
Among Mahoney's many activities is the awesome water park. It's open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and has become wildly popular among campers and day visitors.
If you aren't into the pool experience - or if you need a break from the pool - there are lots of other water activities, as well. Rent a paddle boat for $8 per half-hour ride and leisurely paddle around the little lake.
Or get out the rods and reels and head out for a fun day of fishing. The park offers something for everyone, including a driving range, mini golf, trail rides, an indoor playground, beautiful gardens, a brand new treetop adventure course, and lots more. Find out more about park activities and their costs here.
There’s no better place in eastern Nebraska for a weekend away from home. Mahoney Park is popular for good reason: there’s so much to do and the setting is just stunning. You can learn more about this awesome park from Nebraska Game & Parks right here.
