The summer of 2020 is set to be a magical one in Nebraska. There will be tons of things to do all across the state, but this lantern festival in Ashland will be one of the most beautiful and personally meaningful to all who participate.
On July 11, 2020, folks will gather at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park for a stunning display. The Lights Water Fest is a unique event that will create memories that last a lifetime.
It starts out with an evening of music and great food. Then participants are invited to personalize a floating lantern to later set loose in the water.
You can write or draw whatever you like on the lantern shade. Most people choose to write a message of hope, celebration, or inspiration, or maybe a wish for themselves or a loved one.
It's also an opportunity to let go of things that have been burdening your mind. Let your anger or grief pour out of you and into your marker, then onto the paper shade. As you let the lantern go on the water, you can visualize these feelings floating out of your mind and heart.
Watching your lantern mingle with those of everyone else in attendance is a truly enchanting experience. You'll feel like you're bonding with those strangers as your secrets, hopes, and dreams merge in the water.
Don’t worry about the park’s wildlife; this event is environmentally friendly and responsible. No real fire is used in the lanterns and a clean-up crew is on-site to collect the lanterns, which are also biodegradable.
