Just outside of Hay Springs, you’ll find one of northwest Nebraska’s most peaceful, remote lakes. While this lake has quite a bit of history behind it, nowadays you can escape to this little natural oasis for some true solitary relaxation. This recreation area is the perfect place to spend a peaceful day, and is an especially good spot if you’re into fishing. If you’re looking for a nature getaway in Nebraska, take a visit to this little remote lake – you might even have it all to yourself.
Welcome to Walgren Lake State Recreation Area in Sheridan County, Nebraska. This remote lake in the northwest part of our state is truly a peaceful getaway.
While Walgren Lake is most known for being home to the Walgren Lake Monster, there are surely no signs of anything monstrous here anymore. This lake is so quiet, it's likely that you'll have it all to yourself.
The lake's recreation area is more than 80 acres and the lake itself is 50 acres of beauty. The park includes sheltered areas with picnic tables to reminisce at, and there are primitive camping grounds if you wish to stay in a secluded beautiful area.
While there are boats allowed upon the lake, they can only get up to 5mph. Walgren Lake is the perfect spot for a quiet boat stroll, and the fishing is ever plentiful. This lake has one of the best panfish populations in the state.
