With Valentine’s Day approaching quickly, it’s time (or maybe a little past the time) to plan out your special activities. These fun Valentine’s Day activities in Nebraska are a step beyond the usual roses, dinner, and a movie – they highlight some of the greatest things about our state.
The Sunken Gardens in Lincoln are still beautiful, even in the winter. The shrubs, statuary, and hardscaping take on a lovely new look when they're blanketed in snow. Public parks and community gardens in any town are the perfect romantic spots...and there won't be big crowds in the cold weather.

9. Have a drink and paint a couple's picture with your love.
Plenty of places offer wine and painting. This Saturday at 6:30 pm, you can enjoy this fun activity at the Norfolk Arts Centerr, courtesy of Voila Painting Parties.
Is there anything more romantic than sipping wine with your sweetheart? If you're near Cass County tonight or tomorrow night, call Slattery Vintage Estates for a reservation; they're serving a romantic sweetheart dinner paired with the perfect wine.
7. Pluck the stars from the sky to show your love.
Head to an observatory to gaze at the stars together and count the ways you love one another. The Clyde Sachtleben Observatory at Hastings College is offering free stargazing with their powerful telescopes on Saturday at 7:30 pm. Hyde Memorial Observatory, next to Holmes Lake in Lincoln, also offers their facilities to the public (for free) on Saturday from 7:00 to 10:00. They recommend viewing the moon that night.
Getting away from it all with your one and only is just the thing you need to keep the fire burning in your lives. Pictured is Barn Anew in Scottsbluff, which comes very highly recommended. But there are excellent bed and breakfast spots all over Nebraska.
5. While you're in the area, book a romantic winter carriage ride.
Did you know that Omaha was recently named by Open Table as one of the nation's most romantic cities? Nosh on the whiskey-marinated steaks at The Drover and you'll get a small taste of why.

Ponca State Park is offering their Birds & Breakfast event this weekend. Take some tours, watch some birds, spend the night, have a delicious breakfast, and watch some more birds. It's the perfect Valentine's getaway for nature lovers.
1. Bask in the beauty of the state's most romantic waterfall.
Often named as one of the most romantic spots in Nebraska, Smith Falls is amazing even in the winter. Don't be surprised if you see a proposal taking place here - it's a popular spot for that!
The specific places we named are just examples – you can find similar activities in just about every part of Nebraska. And if you’d rather not go out at all, there’s nothing wrong with cuddling up in front of your fire pit or fireplace and sipping on some wine or sparkling cider. Whatever you do, remind your special someone just how important they are to you every day of the year.
