Next time you’re passing through South Sioux City in the northeastern part of Nebraska, take a little time to pull over for a meal at this truck stop. It looks like a typical truck stop from the outside, but inside is a restaurant experience you won’t soon forget.
Until recently, it sported a decidedly retro vibe with booths and wallpaper straight out of another era. But a remodel has elevated the interior to a more sophisticated experience.
The cafe is almost always hopping with locals and travelers alike. Word has spread far and wide about the delicious food and friendly service here, and folks are more than happy to take a detour to visit.
One of the most popular menu items has to be the hot roast beef sandwich. Tender beef between two thick slabs of bread, topped with a perfect scoop of mashed potatoes and smothered in gravy - this is the ultimate comfort food.
...and delicious dinners like chicken fried steak, liver and onions, broasted chicken, and even a steak and shrimp platter. Although it looks like diner food, it's so much better. The delicious homestyle meals are the kind of high quality, lovingly prepared dishes you'd find in Grandma's kitchen.
You don’t have to limit yourself to the foods traditionally served at breakfast, lunch, and dinner – this cafe is open 24 hours a day so you can always get just what you want.
Visit the Crystal Cafe at 4601 Dakota Ave, South Sioux City, NE. For more information, check out the cafe’s Facebook page.
The Crystal Cafe isn’t the only truck stop in Nebraska offering surprisingly tasty food. This truck stop restaurant is among the best of its kind in the state (and beyond!).
