We all share some similar experiences growing up and living here in Nebraska. Whether you’ve been here since birth or moved here later in life, just about every Nebraskan has had these experiences.
1. Walked Through a Cornfield.
Maybe you were just aimlessly wandering, or maybe you were walking through an awesome corn maze. Either way, this is kind of one of our things.
2. Watched a Tractor Parade...Or a Tractor Pull...Or Attended a Tractor Show.
You'd be hard pressed to find a single parade in Nebraska that doesn't include at least one tractor.
3. Worn Shorts and a Winter Coat in the Same Week. Sometimes Even in the Same Day.
You've got to be prepared for every type of weather to happen within the span of a few days here.
4. Gone Fishin'.
It seems like everyone here is a big fan of the outdoors, and we're also big on self-reliance. Fishing is fun AND lets you feed your family super-cheap. What's not to love?
5. Picked Your Own Fruit Straight From the Farm or Orchard.
We aren't all lucky enough to live on a farm or to have a big garden, but that's okay. Pick-your-own farms are pretty easy to find.
6. Watched a Huskers Game.
If you've never been able to get tickets, chances are you've probably at least watched a game or two on TV. Chances are even better that you're a fanatic who would never miss a game.
7. Gone to Some Amazing Tailgating Parties.
Even if you don't like football, tailgating is an experience that Nebraskans do better than anyone else. We'll take any chance to break out the barbecue and the beer, right?
8. Eaten a Runza.
It's just a wholly Nebraskan experience. Particularly if you're a transplant, you've had at least one person tell you "You HAVE TO try this!"
9. Visited the Henry Doorly Zoo.
Even if you had to drive six hours to see it, visiting the zoo is like a fundamental part of living in the state. Since it's the best one anywhere, ever, and it's right in Nebraska, it would be a shame to miss it.
10. Gone Outside To Watch an Oncoming Severe Storm.
You can't see the storm if you're inside "taking cover." Duh.
What other experiences are all part of true Nebraska life? Put in your two cents in the comments.
