With the exception of an errant snowstorm here and there, we’ve had an unseasonably warm winter, and temperatures are set to climb again (at least in eastern Nebraska) over the next week. There’s no better way to celebrate the upcoming spring than with some of the tastiest homemade ice cream Nebraska has to offer.
Ted & Wally's in the Old Market has been satisfying Omaha's sweet tooth since 1986.
If you go on a weekend or on an especially warm day, expect to find a line going out of the door. Actually, sometimes even on a chilly weekday you'll find a long line. That's how good this ice cream is.
And the flavors you'll find are absolutely unbelievable. There are your typical chocolate and vanilla, of course, and there's a constantly rotating menu of inventive special flavors.
Ted and Wally's even offers vegan options for those who can't eat dairy. There are also regular offerings of sherbet, sorbet, frozen yogurt, sugar-free options, and paleo-friendly flavors. Wow!
If you're feeling a little crazy, you can enhance your flavor choice with some toppings to make your scoops into a sundae. Or ask for mix-ins to make your own custom creation.
Some of the flavors featured recently at the Benson location are pictured here: Lavender Blackberry, Coffeefinger (Coffee+Butterfingers), Sweet Potato Pie, and Fig Pecan Honey Oats.
Husker Red frozen yogurt - made with strawberries and cherries in a Greek yogurt base - is so pretty you might not even want to eat it (but you totally would because it's delicious). If you're craving a specific flavor, you can order custom half-gallons that are exactly what you want.
If you just can't choose between all of the flavors on offer, the staff will be happy to let you sample a few. No matter what you choose, everything is delicious. And it's well worth the wait.
Ted and Wally’s has even won “Best of Omaha” titles several times for their delicious offerings.
Ted and Wally’s recently opened a second location in Benson in 2016, which you can find at 6023 Maple Street. The original Old Market location is at 1120 Jackson Street. Check out their website for more information, and keep up with their Facebook page for the flavors of the day.
