Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Living in Nebraska: Honestly, it’s not for everyone. Like, so much so that this was the actual tagline used by Nebraska Tourism in 2019. And wouldn’t you know it: the catchphrase managed to see an increase in traffic to our great little state (finally). Our state pride is so strong that we enjoy turning to places like Wear Your Roots for awesome Nebraska schwag, or we won’t be caught dead without some red on during game day, or literally any other little way to show we love it. No matter what, living here is a privilege – and here are nine signs that you’ve earned it!
1. What do you mean you’re doing something else on game day??
'Round here we love us some cinnamon rolls with our chili. Sure, it might sound weird out of the gate, but seriously - it's the PERFECT savory/sweet combo, and we cannot get enough of it. Don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it. For real.

3. You know what they say: If you don’t like the weather, wait ten minutes.
Yeah, yeah. Very funny. We have four seasons here: winter, kind of winter, tornadoes, and ew, why is it so gross outside? Summer humidity is no fun, but it kinda beats severe weather (but you'll still catch us outside during a tornado warning).
It means something to us. If you're from here, you get it. If you're not, ask someone who is. I'm not gonna explain it. It's very, very complex... a Nebraska thing.
5. A Nebraska traffic jam happens when there are turkeys... or elk... or cattle... in the road.
If you get it, congratulations: You're definitely a born-and-bred Nebraskan. Even people who live in Lexington have to dunk on it from time to time. We don't make the rules, we just follow them, okay?
You know, for a bunch of people who do so much insisting to outsiders that there's way more than just corn here... we sure do have a lot of corn here. And we LOVE it. We even have corn hats! Don't judge. Just grab a hat.
...and if you do decide to check out Wear Your Roots, use the code Nebraska10 for 10 percent off.
If you find you can’t get enough of all things Nebraskan, you’ll probably love checking out this list of awesome Nebraska road trips. What are your favorite things about living in Nebraska? Let me know!
