As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
In most places, beautiful hotels are defined by their opulent fixtures, extravagant furnishings, and luxurious amenities. But in Nebraska, we like to pay a little more attention to things like natural beauty, historical value, and memorable experiences. This hotel in western Nebraska may not be the most luxurious you’ll ever stay in, but we dare you to find a hotel in the state in a more spectacular setting.
In the spectacular area of the northwestern panhandle, just west of Crawford, is Fort Robinson State Park. The area's favorite park was once the site of a US Army fort that was established in 1873-1874.
The fort has generations of compelling history behind it, which you can explore at the museum on site. But to really immerse yourself in the legends and natural beauty of the place, book a stay at the lodge (or any of the other accommodations at the park).
The Fort Robinson State Park Lodge is not for people who expect luxurious accommodations or fancy surroundings. The building has been updated from its original 19th-century state, but it is still, by most standards, "rustic."
The furnishings are simple, the rooms are rather small when compared to modern hotels and motels. But you'd be hard pressed to find an experience at those modern facilities that rivals the feeling of sitting on this porch on a hot summer night, shooting the breeze with friends and family.
And the views - can you imagine waking up to this in the morning? Pictures can't really convey the majesty of this place. The rock formations rising up from the prairie are endlessly impressive.
You'll stay in rather simple surroundings that encourage you to experience the history and natural beauty of the place rather than staying in your room the whole time.
Besides the hotel-like lodge, there are cabins, barracks, and other buildings in which to spend a memorable night. You can even bring your tent or RV if you'd prefer.
No matter how you decide to stay here, it's worth the trip. There are so many things to do that you may find yourself wishing you'd booked another night or two so you can fit them all in.
Jeep rides, trail rides, museums, historical reconstructions (and even reenactments on some occasions), and hikes are just a few of the activities you'll love. And that's not even to mention all of the things there are to do in the beautiful area surrounding the park.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the park's bison herd and longhorn herd. Watching these majestic animals is at once calming and thrilling. You'll feel like you're back in Nebraska's early days.
While the accommodations themselves are far from extravagant, they’re comfortable – and they’re located in what may just be the most beautiful setting in the entire state. Learn more about the available lodging and book a stay here.
One of the wonderful unique activities at Fort Robinson State Park is the Jeep tour – read more about it right here.
