We’re pretty far from the South here in Nebraska, but we still have a healthy appreciation for delicious Southern food. You’d never believe it to look at it from the outside, but this nondescript little restaurant is full of the biggest soul food flavors you’ll find in the whole state.
Quick Bites Soul Food opened on Mission Street in Bellevue in November, 2016. The colorful sign is your first clue that you're in for a fun dining experience.
The little dining area is open, airy, and bright. There's plenty of seating, but not so many tables that you'll feel lost in the crowd. At busy times you may have to wait for a table, but it's totally worth the wait. The food is home cooking served quickly - it's not fast food, but you also won't have to wait around forever when you're hungry.
On the menu you'll find the soul food classics that fill your belly and soothe your soul. Catfish, fried chicken, and okra are some of the staples on this menu.
You'll find plenty of dishes here that are a little more challenging to find in other Nebraska restaurants, like cajun shrimp, po' boy sandwiches, and New Orleans sausage and shrimp. The fried gizzards are cooked to perfection.
While soul food isn't usually associated with healthy living, the folks at Quick Bites have made it their mission to recreate these Southern favorites in a healthier way. You'd never be able to tell, though, because this food tastes just like the delectable dishes you'll find at any good Southern restaurant.
And you can celebrate these slightly-healthier options by capping off your meal with a tasty dessert. The pound cake, banana pudding, and sweet potato pie will satisfy any sweet tooth.
