We all know that small towns have the best restaurants. The food is made with love and care, and the company of locals is always the best. Crawford, in northwest Nebraska, is a small town of fewer than 1000 residents, but it has lots of options for tasty, tasty dining.


High Plains Homestead is a fun western resort where you can feel like a cowboy for a day. The restaurant serves some delicious, down-home, cowboy-sized meals. The most notable is the Coffee Burger: two one-pound beef patties with cheese, all the fixings, and two sides. (Don't be ashamed if you need help finishing it!)

If you're famished after a long day of exploring Fort Robinson State Park, the cafe, located in the old Enlisted Men's Barracks, will satisfy your big appetite. Get a perfectly cooked steak or some delicious fried chicken - whatever you choose, you'll leave feeling full and happy.


Although the Hitch-n-Post has more than just pizza, you'll want to make it a point to try the pizza first. Fans say it's the best for miles around...and you'll hear no argument here!


This may seem like an unlikely place to find amazing BBQ, but that's one of the reasons that locals and visitors keep coming back again and again. There are also plenty of other tasty options, including fresh cut fries and, of course, delicious ice cream.

Staab's is open seasonally and closes for the winter in early October, but during the summer months they dish up all of the drive-in favorites. Their claim to fame, however, is their perfectly juicy broasted chicken. Grab a few pieces, then enjoy an ice cream cone or other frozen treat to end your meal with a smile.


This laid-back local favorite serves mostly bar food, but at times you'll also find special meals like steaks or prime rib. It's totally worth a visit when you're craving a cold beer and a great burger.

This diner shares a building with R Bar, which turns out to be a pretty great combination. Head to Vic's for home-cooked goodness that you'll still be talking about long after you lick the last crumb from your plate. Get classic western treats like Indian tacos, steaks, and fried chicken, along with lots of other fabulous options. Don't forget to try the pie!
