This Restaurant In Nebraska Is The First Of Its Kind And You’ll Want To Visit
If you aren’t familiar with UNL’s now-disbanded singing group Scarlet and Cream Singers, the name of this new Lincoln restaurant might seem a little strange. But when you hear the story behind the restaurant and the group that inspired it, you’ll see just how charming the whole package really is.

Two UNL alums - one of them also a Scarlet and Cream alum - are behind the venture. The name comes from the singing group's affectionate nickname: the Screamers.

While you enjoy a meal at Screamers, you'll also be treated to live musical performances from the restaurant's own staff. The entertainment is provided by the very same people who take your food and drink orders. They also happen to be some of Lincoln's rising musical stars.

Lunchtime hours are just for time travel at Screamers. Every weekday is a different decade; the staff dress up and sing songs from that era. It's definitely a welcome refuge from the tedious office workday. Special events such as spotlight performances and comedy acts grace the Screamers stage from time to time as well. The restaurant staff prefers to highlight local talent rather than trying to score national acts.

Screamers is no one-trick pony. The entertainment is top-notch, but the food is just as delightful. Seared scallops, pictured above, are one of the signature dishes on the menu.

You'll find old favorites and new loves on the menu. From handmade pasta and hearty burgers to fresh seafood dishes and thick steaks, the offerings are varied but not overwhelming. There are even some vegetarian and vegan selections (including a dairy-free fondue!).

Lunch and dinner are, of course, terrific. But you can also stop in for brunch and be treated to some of the greatest comfort food around. Choose the buffet or order from the generous menu for an unforgettable meal.

As great as the food and entertainment are, Screamers is about much more than either of those. The owners were inspired by the founding musical director of the Scarlet and Cream Singers, Ray Miller. Miller served as a father figure to the singers, providing gentle guidance even after he retired.

Screamers' mission is not only to provide food and entertainment to the public and jobs to performers; it's to help foster Lincoln's up-and-coming talent. The restaurant provides them with jobs, sure, but more importantly, it provides them a place to learn, grow, and hone their talents. It's just like Ray Miller would have wanted.
