This Pioneer Village In Nebraska Is A Blast From The Past

The familiar covered wagon sign greets visitors. Much like the pioneers who are celebrated here. people travel long distances to see this unique place. It houses more than 50,000 items of Americana - more than any other collection in the world.

The museum is spread out over 28 buildings, 12 of which are historic structures arranged around a central green. Some are replicas and some - like the Pony Express station - are the real deal and have been carefully transported to the site from their original locations.

Many of the buildings are dedicated to showing off large collections of authentic memorabilia such as pottery, home appliances, and simple everyday items. The collections are a fascinating way to connect with Nebraska's history in a way that reading a history book just can't match.

Other buildings house more unique collections, such as the automobile buildings which house antique cars, including the world's oldest Buick. An Iron Horse and the oldest carousel in the U.S. (steam-powered and still working!) are some of the other highlights you'll find as you walk around the grounds. Obviously, not all of the displays center on pioneer life. Pioneer Village is a place to celebrate all of Nebraska's and America's history.

During the summer months, you can purchase items from the blacksmith shop, grab a bite at the snack shop, or even attend Sunday services in Minden's first church, complete with original pews. Summer is definitely the time to visit for a leisurely stroll around the grounds if you want to experience everything that Pioneer Village has to offer. However, the attraction is open all year except for Christmas Day, so you can go wander through history any time of the year. (Just be warned: the buildings are not heated in the winter!)
