When we talk about our favorite destinations during winter in Nebraska, our list is quite long. Here, you will find many beautiful, exciting, and impressive winter travel destinations that are just waiting to be explored. One of our favorites is tucked away in Lincoln – Pioneers Park Nature Center. While many people come to this park during the summer months, the winter is just as spectacular with photography opportunities, sledding adventures, and so much more.
Pioneers Park is one of the most beloved parks in Nebraska. This large 668-acre nature preserve in Lincoln is extraordinary, with numerous habitats, wildlife, and recreational opportunities galore.
This park was dedicated in 1963, but it dates back to the 1930s. Over the years, it has grown, and today, it is home to countless activities no matter the season.
There are more than 10 miles of hiking trails at Pioneers Park, and if snow is on the ground, strap on some snowshoes, bundle up, and explore - it’s the perfect winter day activity.

Of course, you will want to observe much of the wildlife found at this Lincoln City park. This is a beautiful destination for birdwatching. Spend a few hours observing these creatures, and see how many different species you can spot.
This park was actually named one of the best sledding destinations in America. Here, you’ll find wooden sled runs that can take you soaring nearly 300 feet. It’s a thrill the entire family will love.
And if the weather outside is a little too chilly for you, Pioneers Park Nature Center has several buildings where you can find all types of gems including the Chet Ager Building, where you can view exhibits about the wetlands and woodlands in eastern Nebraska. Large windows let you enjoy views of this incredible urban park without stepping foot outside.
All year long, Pioneers Park Nature Center in Lincoln is a bucket-list-worthy destination, but we are particularly fond of visiting during the winter. This is a destination that truly has it all.
