Here in Nebraska, “middle of nowhere” isn’t exactly an insult. We love that there are miles and miles of wide open spaces all across the state. The only time we wish things were just a little different is when we find a terrific small-town restaurant that we wish we could visit every day.
There is just such a restaurant in little Rushville in Sheridan County. Fewer than 900 people live here, and pretty much all of them will agree that the Twisted Turtle Pub has some of the best pizza they've ever tasted.
The space itself is unique for small-town Nebraska. It's open, bright, and full of stylish furniture. It's a beautifully modern space that would be right at home in a big-city setting.
The menu at the Twisted Turtle is small. You can get a pizza or a salad, along with beer and cocktails. But what these folks do, they do right. Pick your toppings and wait for a while, and you'll see what we mean.
Many of the ingredients are locally sourced, including sausage which comes from a shop in town. The beer selection includes Nebraska beers so you can keep the whole experience local.
Whether you're just passing through or making a trip to Rushville just for the pizza, it's totally worth a stop at the Twisted Turtle. The terrific prices and friendly folks will keep you coming back.
The Twisted Turtle Pub is located at 129 N Main St, Rushville, NE 69360. Check out their Facebook page for news, specials, and contact info. If you’re in a hurry, we suggest calling about an hour ahead and placing your order so your pizza can be ready when you get there.
There’s another small-town pizza joint that people go crazy for, and you’ll want to make a pizza pilgrimage there, too. Read about it right here.
