This time of year, many of us are thinking about Halloween and all of the creepy, spooky things that come with it. If you’re looking for a unique way to get into the spirit, you’ll want to take a trip to Elkhorn to attend a movie at this outdoor haunt attraction.
Camp Fear, located in Riverwest Park, is one of the Omaha area's most popular Halloween-season haunts. Its Bloodrush Forest of Terror is an especially scary experience, and you can even camp here overnight for a terrifying adventure.
On weekends in September and October, Nightmare Theater is an additional attraction that you'll want to make time for. Nightmare Theater uses a big outdoor screen to show a terrifying selection of horror movies (and even a few family-friendly ones).
Bring your own blankets or chairs and your favorite beverages - alcohol is permitted for ages 21 and over - and settle in for an evening of spooky fun. The movies start at dark, but never before 7 p.m. Each showing includes three movies, aside from the family-friendly nights which feature two movies.
Regular admission is affordable at just $5 for everyone ages 6 and up, but we recommend renting a fire pit to make the most of the experience. It comes with a wheelbarrow full of firewood and an optimal viewing position. Bring your own snacks or visit the concession stand for your movie treats.
You can also camp out overnight for an additional fee - but be warned that the Fright Overnight experience includes spooky characters walking around the campsite and scaring patrons.
There's something very creepy about watching your favorite horror movies in the dark while you hear the screams of frightened Forest of Terror visitors in the background. If you're a fan of Halloween and all things scary, this is a one-of-a-kind experience that you will not want to miss.
Don't expect a quiet movie theater-type experience. These outdoor movies have a festival-type atmosphere and you can feel free to chat and have a good time as you enjoy a scary good time.
Check out the Nightmare Theater schedule here, and be sure to explore the rest of the Camp Fear website to find out more about the park’s other attractions and events.
