With Christmas around the corner, we are all in the mood for some cheer, but have you ever wondered where the happiest areas in your state are? Last year, CreditDonkey did a study to determine the happiest towns in Nebraska. They measured happiness by using data for restaurants, crime rates, commute times, departure times (for work in the morning), income, divorce rate, and housing. Check out the findings below and see if your town is on the list.
10. Fremont
Fremont is the tenth happiest town in Nebraska, located about 35 miles from Omaha. Hormel, the maker of SPAM, is located in Fremont.
9. York
Your odds of being the victim of a violent crime are insanely low in York, at only one in 1,964. There are also tons of restaurants here, and that snazzy water tower.
8. McCook
The average commute time in McCook is shorter than average, at 11 minutes.
7. Ralston
Ralston has a ton of restaurants and bars, and also is home to the Ralston Arena, which is home to the the Omaha Lancers hockey team.
6. Papillion
Papillion is a remarkably affluent and safe town; the median income is $73,988 and your odds of being the victim are one in 2,433.
5. Blair
Blair is part of the statewide arboretum, so you can bet that you'll find plenty of cool trees here along with plenty of restaurants and bars.
4. Columbus
Glur's Tavern in Columbus is the oldest tavern west of the Missouri River still in operation. Take a bite out of history in Nebraska's fourth happiest town.
3. Sidney
Sidney has tons of food and nightlife and a super short average commute time, making the residents well-fed and relaxed. Sidney is also home to Cabela's corporate headquarters.
2. Gering
Gering is Nebraska's second happiest town, thanks in part to its unbelievable safety record. Your odds of being the victim of a violent crime are only one in 2,859.
1. Seward
The divorce rates in Seward are unbelievably low, at 3.6% for males and 7.9% for females. The residents here also spend less money than average on housing. The town is also famous for its Fourth of July celebration, pictured above.
