Fall is a magical time in Nebraska. Crops are being harvested, temperatures are becoming more bearable, caramel apples are finally making their annual comeback, and festivals are popping up all over the state. If you only have time to attend one of those festivals this year, make it Hallowfest at Ponca State Park.
Step into the spooky when you attend the annual Hallowfest at Ponca State Park. This family-friendly festival has been going on since 1998, and it's become a fun tradition.
There are tons of activities for all ages. Pick out a pumpkin and carve it into the silliest or scariest face you can imagine. There's a small prize for the winners!
The pumpkin roll obstacle course is a fan favorite. There are four different age groups for competitors; there's a small prize involved, but we think you'll find that watching the pumpkins bounce and roll is enough of a reward!
Keep the fun going with various games, a maze, snacks, and more. While many of the activities charge a small fee, there are plenty of things to do for free.
People who are staying at the campground can participate in the campsite decoration contest. Visitors will have a blast walking around and checking out the hilarious displays.
Some of the decorations around the park can get very creative and elaborate. It's a can't-miss annual event for lots of the campers here who return year after year.
A haunted drive caps off the night. For a fee, the whole family (or a carload of them, at least) can drive through the campground for a magical Halloween display - and maybe even some surprises!
The Ponca State Park Hallowfest takes place over two weekends in October. Some activities require a fee and/or pre-registration, so check out the park’s Facebook page for updates and announcements. A state parks permit is required to enter the park.
