If you had the privilege of growing up in southeastern Nebraska – or at least visiting often – you probably remember the joy of stopping at the Dari Creme on Main Street. The tiny ice cream shop is known for its large portions, reasonable prices, and friendly faces. It’s a summertime delight that has been fueling summertime fun for decades.
Mrs. T's Dari Creme has been a fixture of Louisville's Main Street since the 1940s. The tiny walk-up ice cream shop is just a mile away from Louisville State Recreation Area, and it's a must-visit for anyone spending a day at the Lakes.
The little shop was temporarily closed after the previous owner died in 2019. Not wanting to see the beloved ice cream shop close up forever, new owners took over and revamped the Dari Creme. It reopened in the summer of 2020.
The ice cream shop may look a little different these days, but some things haven't changed at all. The ice cream is still as fresh and delicious as ever, and the options for toppings or mix-ins are plentiful.
The Cyclones - ice cream blended with candy or other add-ins - are still a local favorite. If you remember visiting the Dari Creme when you were a kid, you may be surprised to find out that the portions are still huge. Even the ice cream cones are massive!
There are a few new additions to the menu. There are some standard ice cream flavors that are always available, and a special flavor is featured each week. The fruity Dole Whip is especially delicious, and it's even dairy-free for those of us who love ice cream but have sensitive tummies.
Ice cream is certainly the cornerstone of this sweet little business, but it serves delicious hot food as well, like burgers, fries, and fried cheese curds.
The new owners have added a seating area out back where you can get out of the sun (or rain, because rainy days are still perfect for ice cream) and enjoy your treats. The ice cream stand is accessible, so everyone can enjoy the delicious fun!
Mrs. T’s Dari Creme is a seasonal business that’s only open in the summer. For opening dates, menus, and everything else you need to know before you visit, check out the restaurant’s Facebook page.
