A while ago, we looked at the most “sinful” counties in Nebraska: those with the highest number of establishments like liquor stores and adult entertainment. There’s another side to that coin, though – these are the 10 counties in Nebraska with the most religious organizations per 10,000 residents. A religious organization is defined as a church or other organized place of religious gathering and worship. All data was compiled and published by FindTheHome.com.
Thayer County kicks off our list with 50.13 religious organizations per 10,000 residents. That's 24 churches total for this county of just over 5,200 - 2.5 times as many as the state average and 2.7 times as many as the US average.
Custer County is home to 51.51 religious organizations per 10,000 residents, which is 2.5 times higher than the Nebraska average and 2.8 times higher than the US average.
Boyd County, home of Butte, lists 52.56 churches per 10k residents, putting it at 2.6 times as many as the state average and 2.8 times as many as the national average.
Sheridan County, where the county seat is Rushville, has 53.8 religious organizations per 10,000 people, giving it 2.6 times as many as the state average and 2.9 times as many as the national average.
Chase County houses 55.22 religious organizations per 10k residents, giving it 2.7 times as many as the Nebraska average and 3 times as many as the national average.
Brown County, of which Ainsworth is the county seat, comes in at #4 with an even 60 religious organizations per 10k residents. That's 2.9 times as many as the state average and 3.2 times as many as the national average.
You won't have a problem finding a place to attend services in Nuckolls County. There are 24 religious organizations here, or 60.51 per 10,000 residents.
Holy moly! In Deuel County, you'll find 66.6 religious organizations per 10,000 residents - 3.3 times as many as the Nebraska average and 3.6 times as many as the US average.
And boasting the highest number of religious organizations per resident in the entire state is Blaine County. Here you'll find a whopping 102.39 religious organizations per 10,000 residents, which is five times as many as the state average and 5.5 times as many as the US average. Blaine is the second-least populous county in the state and the sixth-least populous county in the country, so that translates into not too many actual churches, but a very high ratio of churches to people.
It’s important to remember that these numbers have been adjusted to show how many religious organizations are in each place per 10,000 people to give a fair comparison between vastly different populations. These counties (with the exception of Custer) all have actual populations of fewer than 10,000.
