Ogallala’s main claims to fame may be in its past as a wild, rough-and-tumble town in the Old West, and its proximity to the beautiful Lake McConaughy – but there’s a lot more to this small Nebraska town. It happens to also be a great spot for Mexican food, with multiple restaurants to choose from. We’ve chosen three of the best Mexican restaurants in Ogallala, Nebraska to feature here.
Our first restaurant is Margaritas – previously called Three Margaritas - a small local chain with one other location in North Platte, Nebraska, and a few locations in Colorado. The Ogallala location is a popular spot and for good reason.
Serving up both traditional Mexican dishes and more modern twists on the traditional, Margaritas is a must-visit. The menu has plenty of variety so you're sure to find something that suits your tastes - there are even multiple veggie options for the vegetarian diner.
And of course, we have to mention the margaritas! Try the mango margarita for a refreshing accompaniment to your meal.
To learn more about this Ogallala favorite, visit the Margaritas website or Facebook page.
Next up is Mi Ranchito, a family-owned restaurant that's been serving the local Ogallala community for almost two decades. You can't miss it - just look for the giant cactus sign.
Take a seat at one of the colorful tables and enjoy delicious fajitas, tacos, enchiladas, burritos, and more. You can learn more and check out the menu at the Mi Ranchito Restaurant Facebook page.
Our third mention here isn’t exactly a sit-down restaurant – it’s a food truck with some of the best Mexican fare around and plenty of devoted customers.
Villa Burritos serves up delicious Mexican food ranging from breakfast burritos to tacos, quesadillas, sandwiches, and seasonal specialties like soups when the weather is cold. Visit the Villa Burritos Facebook page to learn about new specialties and current hours.
When you visit Ogallala’s Front Street, styled to look as the town did back in the Old West, you’ll feel like you’re stepping back in time. But Ogallala is more than just its past as "the cowboy capital of Nebraska." Stay a while after you check out the tourist attractions and you’ll find friendly people, plenty of small-town charm, and of course, good food.
Have you been to any of these local favorites? We’d love to hear about your experience.
