Nebraska is known around the world for producing top-quality steaks, and we’ve got plenty of amazing steakhouses to find them in. You don’t even have to travel to the large cities to find some of the best steaks in Nebraska – you’ll find them in the small town of McCook.
Welcome to the Coppermill Steakhouse in McCook, Nebraska.
This beloved steakhouse has been cooking up some of Nebraska's most coveted beef since opening in the early 1980s. There's a newer location in Kearney, but the McCook restaurant is where it all started.
Expect your tummy to start growling when you step inside and get your first whiff of all of the delicious things coming out of the kitchen. You'll want to order a little something to tide you over until your main dish arrives. We suggest the Dry Aged Candle, a unique appetizer that consists of a "candle" made from roasted dry-age trimmings and drizzled with balsamic vinegar and herbs. The flame melts down the fat, which mixes with the vinegar and herbs to create the perfect bread-dipping sauce.
A glass of red wine is the perfect accompaniment to a steak dinner, and the wine selection is impressive. There are also plenty of creative cocktails; pictured here are some tasty, nonalcoholic, berry and herb "mocktails."

The main attraction is, not surprisingly, the steak.
All steaks at the Coppermill are aged for a minimum of 30 days to give them a rich, decadent flavor and melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. They're hand-cut right there in the restaurant every day.
It features a savory lamp chop, a Connealy Angus Manhattan filet, mashed Yukon Gold potatoes, and a balsamic glaze, all sourced from businesses in Nebraska.
If you're in the mood for something a little more exotic, you can't go wrong with the pork bao buns.
They're only offered on special nights, so keep an eye on the restaurant's Facebook page to see which specials are going to be on the menu when you visit.
Of course, if you want to cut through all of the fancy stuff and just have a delicious burger, the Coppermill will not disappoint.
Pasta, fish, salads, a rotating offering of special dishes, and incredible side dishes mean that no matter what you're craving, you'll leave the Coppermill stuffed and happy.

If you needed any more reason to visit the Coppermill, consider the desserts.
The restaurant has a cheesecake baker on staff, meaning that creative cheesecakes - like this amaretto one - are guaranteed to end your meal on an exquisite note.
The food at the Coppermill is so good that people travel from all over Nebraska, as well as eastern Colorado and northern Kansas, to enjoy a meal there. Check out the Coppermill’s website or Facebook page for hours, and to keep up on news and specials.
Although the food is all the reason you need to visit this little Red Willow County town, you should also take some time to explore the rest of McCook. It’s a classic Nebraska town with a wealth of things to see and do.
