Nebraska’s state parks and recreation areas are famously full of natural beauty and unforgettable adventures. This one is northeastern Nebraska is often overlooked, but it deserves all of your attention this summer (and beyond).
Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area is located on the Missouri River in northeastern Nebraska, just north of Crofton.
This is the second-largest reservoir in the state, right behind Lake McConaughy. We share it with South Dakota, which has its own Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area in Yankton.
Sandwiched between two other spectacular outdoor areas - Niobrara State Park in the west and Ponca State Park in the east - Lewis and Clark is sometimes passed over by the casual outdoor enthusiast. But those who have discovered its charms typically return again and again.
Spending time on the lake in any form is one of the most popular reasons people flock to Lewis and Clark SRA. There's excellent fishing here, but just cruising around the lake also makes for a perfect day outdoors.
The visitor center (open Memorial Day-Labor Day) offers some fascinating exhibits on the Lewis and Clark Lake/Gavins Park Dam area and the history of this part of Nebraska.
