Peace, Love and Lavender Is A Hidden Gem Lavender Farm In Nebraska

Lavender is known as a fussy plant that’s difficult to grow outside of the perfect climate. Nebraska, of course, has anything but the “perfect” climate. But there are a couple of wonderful lavender farms making it work after a process of trial and error. Peace, Love and Lavender, just outside of Elwood, has been growing lavender since 2013, and the owners have turned their hobby into a lucrative full-time business.

Located just northwest of Johnson Lake in Gosper County, Peace, Love & Lavender grows six varieties of lavender.

Through a series of trials in which they lost significant numbers of their first crops, the farmers, Dan and Cyndi Smith, learned what would work in Nebraska's climate.

Nebraska certainly isn't known as a lavender-growing state, but certain varieties can be coaxed to thrive here.

The farm was a new experience for the couple, as they embarked on this journey after Cyndi won her battle with breast cancer.

They threw themselves into the farm, learning the business, learning about the plants themselves, and making the garden into a lovely space.

There is a labyrinth right next to the lavender garden that visitors can walk to gain a sense of peace and balance. Doing so through the strong smell of lavender must be absolutely heavenly.

In 2016, the couple opened the Peace, Love and Lavender shop. You can find all things lavender there, from food items...

...and of course, those gorgeous purple wreaths. Not all products are made on-site, but they all help buyers incorporate the relaxing, healing qualities of lavender into their lives.

The farm is open to the public on weekends beginning Memorial Day through Labor Day, with several special events taking place throughout the summer.
