Kool-Aid is an almost universally beloved beverage, one that most of us grew up drinking on hot summer days. Did you know that it was invented right here in Nebraska? An enterprising Hastings man named Edwin Perkins developed it in 1927, and it has since taken its place in Nebraska history.
Every year on the second weekend in August, all of Hastings and plenty of people from elsewhere in Nebraska turn out to celebrate the sugary, fruity drink we all know and love.
Of course, you have to make a few trips to the world's largest Kool-Aid stand to sample all of the delicious flavors on offer. Two sugar-free varieties are available for those who need a lighter treat.
This year’s Kool-Aid Days theme is Wild, Wild Watermelon, and the festival runs August 10, 11, and 12, with a variety of events happening each day. For more information on all of the fun coming up, be sure to visit the Kool-Aid Days website.
