Nebraska has so many independent, family-owned restaurants that you’ll likely find one in just about every town. They run the range from itty-bitty cafes to four-star gourmet eateries. Even among all of these unique restaurants, this tiny place stands out.
The little village of Lewiston, in Pawnee County, has a population of just 68. It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it kind of place, for sure.

Blink and you'll definitely miss Jeannie's Place. There's no big sign announcing its presence (there's a tiny one at the corner, though), and the restaurant itself looks just like a house.

That's because it actually is the home of Jeannie, who built an addition on her century-old farmhouse to accommodate dinner guests. Out here, "dinner" is the noontime meal and "supper" is the evening meal.
Everything is served family-style in a dining room that will no doubt bring to mind Sunday dinners at Grandma's when you were a kid. You'll smell the fantastic aromas of the home-cooked dishes before you even make it up to the door. Settle in and prepare for an unforgettable meal. Everything is made fresh by Jeannie herself, from the rolls to the hearty meats to the delectable pies and coffee.

There's no menu here. Just like at a genuine family dinner, you get what the cook has chosen to make that day.
It doesn't matter what's being served, though. Everything is fantastic. It's not fancy gourmet fare; it's down-home country cooking served just like farm families have been enjoying for generations. After your meal, Jeannie will bring out a piece of pie, which is included in the price of your meal. If she's not too busy, she'll even sit down and chat with you for a while.
No reservations are needed if you show up for the noontime meal, though if you have a group you may want to call ahead to make sure there’s enough room for everyone. Jeannie’s Place is also available for evening meals by reservation. Call for more information: 402-865-4355. You can find Jeannie’s Place at 201 Miles Avenue, Lewiston, NE 68380.
