As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
We’ll be the first to admit that Nebraska is the absolute last place that comes to mind when you think “island getaway.” We live in the only triple-landlocked state in the nation, so islands aren’t really our thing. That’s what makes this one island lodge so amazing.
Lost Island Lodge is located near Linwood, in Butler County. It's about a one-hour drive from either Lincoln or Omaha.
This place is seriously beautiful - and massive. It can accommodate up to 36 guests, making it the perfect location for a family reunion, company retreat, hunting party, or other gathering.
The main lodge is rustic and comfortable. It's decorated in true hunting lodge style; everywhere you look, you'll see hunting trophies, rustic decorations, and charming vintage items.
The 3,876-square-foot lodge is a temporary home away from home, complete with a full kitchen and all of the cooking utensils you'll need to prepare all of your meals.
The huge seating areas let everyone in your party enjoy meals together, play games, or just sit down for some great conversations and quality relaxation time.
There are an almost-unbelievable 13 bedrooms in the main lodge and the bunkhouse. The two are connected by a covered, elevated walkway so you don't have to brave the elements moving between the buildings.
Most of the bedrooms contain varying combinations of twin beds, single beds, and futons. There are two private bedrooms; one has a queen bed and the other has a king bed. If needed, you can push together two twin beds to make a king size in any of the rooms.
But that minor inconvenience is nothing when compared to the luxurious seclusion Lost Island Lodge offers. Enjoy the outdoors while you relax from the covered deck, the beautiful patio (complete with fire pit), or the private beach.
Or get out there into nature. There are miles of walking/biking trails, and this is the perfect place to kayak, canoe, tube, swim, or sunbathe. And, of course, this is the perfect home base for your hunting and/or fishing trip. The island is so peaceful that - aside from the people you brought with you - you're not likely to see another soul as long as you're here.
We won’t lie, though – this place is pretty costly if you’re only staying with one or two people. As of the time of publication, the nightly rate is listed as $895 with a three-night minimum stay. However, if you get 10 or 20 friends, coworkers, or family members to come along, the per-person cost is more than reasonable. Find out more about this beautiful secluded island getaway right here.
