It’s not often that you find a “hut” restaurant that has nothing to do with pizza, but the little village of Elmwood features just that. The Cass County restaurant has undergone many changes in ownership over the years, but it’s still open and serving some of the best bar food you’ll find in the region.
If you aren't familiar with quonset huts, this is what they look like. The semi-circular steel buildings are often used for farm storage, so you may have seen them around the countryside.
The Quonset Bar and Grill in Elmwood uses a quonset hut as its base. The inside and outside have been finished off so it doesn't resemble a farm storage building.
...while the banquet space offers a wide-open area. When it's not being used for a special event, this space is a playground for kids. Set the little ones loose on the indoor playground while you wait for your meal so you can enjoy a little quiet time.
Some of the more unexpected elements of the Quonset's menu are the healthier options. Get a side of fruit, cottage cheese, or pasta salad to balance out the heavier parts of your meal. If you're watching your cholesterol, there's even a veggie burger.
