Nebraskans are proud of our history, a fact that shows in our wealth of museums and other historical attractions. There are several reconstructed historical villages throughout the state, but today we’re featuring one that came about because of one community’s tireless efforts to preserve its history.
The Howard County Historical Society's Historical Village is located on Sixth Street in St. Paul. It consists of six restored vintage buildings from St. Paul and surrounding areas.
Some of the buildings were donated to the Historical Society, while others were purchased by the Society and moved to their new home. All of them are maintained and restored by committed community volunteers who come together with one goal in mind: to preserve the area's rich history.
The brick Gruber House across the street is also owned by the Howard County Historical Society. It houses a wealth of exhibits and artifacts from Howard County, St. Paul, and beyond.
When the village is open during the season (Memorial Day through Labor Day), you can visit these lovingly restored and well-maintained buildings and displays and enjoy learning about Nebraska history.
Stroll through the little village, admire the beautiful village clock, and have a seat on one of the benches while you just watch the world go by for a little while.
Be sure to visit the rest of St. Paul while you're here. The entire downtown area has these beautiful classic storefronts, and there are lots of great attractions and businesses that make this a thoroughly charming place to spend a day.
