At one time, drive-in theaters were the place to be every weekend. Over the years, most drive-ins have closed, but there’s one that’s still entertaining viewers in a tiny eastern Nebraska town.
Take a trip to Neligh in Antelope County to enjoy a movie at the state's oldest drive-in movie theater.
The TK/Starlite Drive-In opened in Neligh in 1952. Things have changed a bit in the ensuing years, but ultimately attending a showing there still feels a lot like being there decades ago.
This is a truly old-school movie experience. Bring cash for your tickets and concessions - this retro destination does accept credit/debit cards, but only with a $1-$2 surcharge.
Whether or not you were around to enjoy the heyday of the drive-in theater, you'll enjoy the fun, vintage experience of driving up to a spot and settling in to enjoy a movie right there in your car.
One of the best-loved parts of the Starlite is the concession stand. Visitors rave about the burgers and fries; you can also grab a bag of chips, a candy bar, or other cold item for a quick snack.
Like most theaters, the concession stand is how the Starlite makes the bulk of its money. Be sure to bring along a few dollars for dinner or snacks to help keep this vintage treasure open for years to come!
The drive-in is typically open from April or May through September. It recently acquired a new digital projector, so the viewing experience is really top notch.
