This is the time of year when we all start looking forward to pumpkins, corn mazes, haunted houses, and all things Halloween. One Nebraska town does haunting better than anyone else – and we’re not talking about our many ghost towns. Brule, in Keith County, goes all-out for a limited engagement experience at the end of October…and it’s frightfully fun.
Every October, the entire town of Brule is taken over by spirits, zombies, murderers, and various nightmarish characters.
When we say the entire town is in on it, we mean the entire town. This is the only place in the U.S. where the whole town participates in a yearly haunted attraction.
Volunteers come together to create an immersive experience that will delight even the most seasoned haunted house enthusiast. The attraction only runs for a few nights every year, and a great deal of care is put into making the attraction - and the actors - suitably scary.
As a visitor, you'll be treated to four haunts: Dr. Doom's Science Room, Mr. Wiggle's Wood Shop, Prom Night Massacre, and Detention Fields. You can also choose to take Coach Slappy's Bus Ride where you'll encounter the spirits of students who refuse to pass on, or visit the park for the Lost Soul Train Ride.
But just walking the streets of Brule is enough to give you a fright. Strange creatures roam the town during the Halloween season, and you can bet they'll be watching (and following) you.
For the more practical attendee, there are concessions available throughout School District 13 Haunted Attraction. You might want to limit your liquid intake, though, in case you get so frightened that you lose control...
This video provides a taste of what it feels like to walk around these dark streets during the attraction.
The haunting dates for 2016 are October 20th-23rd and 27th-30th. Admission is anywhere from $10 to $25 depending on how many haunts you want to go into. Learn more on their website or Facebook page.
