Who doesn’t love a good scare around Halloween? Haunted houses are awesome fun, as long as you can handle ghouls and monsters jumping out at you and making you scream. Any of these haunted houses make for a great night out – but we don’t recommend going alone!
1. Camp Fear, Omaha
Located at RiverWest Park, Camp Fear is not so much a haunted house as it is a haunting experience. Come in the evening to experience Bloodrush, a terrifying forest of fright. And if you're brave enough, bring a tent and stay the whole wickedly scary night.
2. Carnival of Terror, Omaha
This ultra-scary haunted attraction is located in the "underbelly" of Hollywood Candy/Fairmont Antiques in Omaha's Old Market (which is, frankly, already really creepy on its own). Are you brave enough to descend into terror?
3. Eagle Hollow Haunts, Eagle
Walk through a luminescent alien world, then stumble through the darkness to find your way back to civilization after being abandoned by a crazed bus driver. Make your way through the demented dreams of a little girl, then sit down with Dr. Shots and Nurse Ivy for an injection of some much-needed liquid courage. Eagle Hollow is a wildly creative terror trip with lots of experiences waiting to be had.
4. Escape the Underworld, Kearney
Located in the basement of the World Theater (under the World, get it?), this attraction only runs on October 22-24 and 29-31. The theater itself is thought to be haunted, so when you add a whole cast of creepy characters to the frightening surroundings, you've got a sure-fire recipe for some big screams.
5. Grey House Haunts, Holdrege
Dr. Grey invites you to take a tremendously terrifying tour of Grey Manor. You'll meet scary creatures and be surprised by warped characters at every turn.
6. Haunted Hollow, Omaha
Haunted Hollow boasts more attractions than any other haunted house in the area. More than 20 attractions are packed onto a seven-acre farm, and with extras like live music, bonfires, and creepy car shows, it's kind of like the grown-up version of a kid-oriented pumpkin patch.
7. Mystery Manor, Omaha
Said to be the only haunted attraction in the area that is located in an actual haunted house, Mystery Manor has been creeping people out for many years. Paranormal investigators have claimed that the restless spirits here are real - and around Halloween, they're aided by some very talented, very creepy actors who will make you jump out of your skin over and over.
8. Ranch of Terror, Papillion
The fun, family-friendly Bellevue Berry and Pumpkin Ranch turns scary at night with the Ranch of Terror. The Ranch of Terror has been operating for more than 30 years, and it just gets bigger, better, and scarier every year.
9. Roca Scary Farm, Roca
In the light of day, Roca Berry Farm is the perfect place for the family. At night, all of the ghouls come out to play. There's an entire haunted farm to explore, but one of the coolest attractions is the Zombie Hunt, where you shoot at live (well, technically dead?) zombies as they try to overtake the Zombie Attack Vehicle you're in.
10. Scary Acres, Omaha
Scary Acres is home to three of Omaha's favorite haunted attractions: the Haunted Woods, The House on the Hill, and Master's Castle. This 20+ acre destination grows and changes every year, which is why most people who have a great scare there return year after year.
11. School District 13, Brule
You may think that eastern Nebraska hoards all of the Halloween fun, but this four-haunt attraction brings the fear to the west side. Located in several old buildings in the village of Brule, this is a seriously scary experience that feels kind of like you're trapped in a horror movie - in a fun way, of course.
12. The Shadows Edge, Omaha
Now in its 13th year, The Shadows Edge has often been called Omaha's scariest haunted house. While we can't speak to the truth of that statement, we can say that visitors love this attraction located in the Mangelsen's parking lot. Actors keep you entertained while you wait in line and get your heart racing with fright before you even step foot inside the main attraction.
13. Terror on 12th Street, Crete
Consisting of two haunted houses and an attraction that lets you shoot clowns, Terror on 12th Street is definitely a unique and frightening destination to add to your Halloween list.
Lots of other smaller haunted houses dot the state – they are often fundraising events for local schools and communities. Which of these haunted houses is your favorite? Do you know of any great ones that weren’t mentioned? Let us know in the comments.
