Right next to the riverfront in Omaha’s downtown is a beautiful park that’s been attracting visitors for nearly three decades. The signature attraction in Heartland Of America Park is the 300-foot-tall computerized fountain in the middle of the lagoon.
Any time of the year, the park is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon walking the one-mile loop trail and visiting with the resident geese and swans. Look into the lagoon and you'll see fish milling about, waiting to see if you've got some food to drop.
The park is a popular place for residents and visitors alike. In the summer there are some enhanced features to enjoy, like gondola rides, boat tours of the lagoon, live entertainment...
...And, after the sun goes down, a dazzling water and light show. This fountain - the largest of three in the park - operates from May 1 to October 31 every year. In the daytime, it's lovely on its own with a constant tall spout of water.
This time lapse video is a beautiful look at the brilliant show.
The fountain with 320-foot-tall jets was once one of the tallest in the world. Today it's outranked by many larger displays, but that doesn't matter much to Omahans or tourists. It's still one of the signature sights of the city, and it's well worth a visit to see the beautiful show.
Visit the Heartland of America Park at 8th & Douglas Streets in Omaha. The park is open all year, but the fountain operates May 1 to Oct 31; Mon-Fri 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-11 p.m.; and Sat-Sun 10:30 a.m.-11 p.m.
