Hiking is one activity that just about all Nebraskans can agree on. We love getting out to enjoy the fresh air and see the beautiful natural sights. Getting out to go on a hike isn’t a possibility for all of us, though, particularly with social distancing and many locations being closed to visitors. But there’s at least one gorgeous hike that you can enjoy without ever leaving your home: the one-mile boardwalk trail at Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue, Nebraska.

The video below was shot in the fall, so the forest isn’t quite as vibrant as it is in the spring and summer. However, the rich fall colors and thinned foliage allow for some really spectacular views. Sit back and leave your hiking boots in the closet – you’re about to go on a hike without ever leaving your couch.

At the moment, Fontenelle Forest’s buildings and Raptor Recovery center are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the trails are still open to members and day visitors; just remember to practice safe social distancing measures and leave plenty of room between yourself and other hikers. Stay up to date on trail conditions and other news on the forest’s Facebook page. And once the grounds are open again, be sure to take this incredible walk among the treetops.

Have you taken this hike in person? We’d love to hear from you! Tell us about your favorite part of the trail in the comments section.
