As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Although today they are most often seen as novelties, riverboats were once an essential part of Nebraska’s economy. The state’s population settled first on the banks of the Missouri, where supplies could be easily delivered. Railroads made river transportation far less important, but you can still experience the old-time charm of the riverboat era in Brownville.
Located in the southeastern corner of Nebraska in the scenic Missouri River Valley, Brownville is right on the banks of the Missouri. It's among the oldest towns in the state, and it's one of the most charming places you could ever hope to visit.

The River Inn Resort is a permanently moored riverboat sitting in the shallows of the river on the edge of Brownville. Even before approaching it you can tell that this is a special place.
It's got the same quiet, quaint air about it that permeates all of Brownville. Walk up the ramp to the floating B&B and you'll be immediately greeted by the always-friendly staff.
The rooms are quiet and cozy with modern amenities. As charming as they are, though, you probably won't want to spend much time in your room when there's so much else to see.
The deck is the perfect spot for lounging and just watching the river. The scenery is serene, and the gentle rocking of the boat may just lull you into a little nap while you lounge.
Dinner is best eaten on a dinner cruise aboard the inn's sister ship, the Spirit of Brownville. This riverboat takes visitors on regular sightseeing tours, and dinner tours are available whether you are staying at the River Inn or not.
If you prefer land-based sightseeing, there's plenty to do off-board. The River Inn Resort is located close to the Captain Meriwether Lewis Dredge, which now houses the Museum of Missouri River History. A walking/hiking trail runs throughout Brownville, and the town itself is full of historic sites and shops (go on a weekend for the full experience). Stopping for a drink at the
Whiskey Run Creek Winery is a special treat.
After a full day of seeing the sights and enjoying the river, it's always nice to lie back and reflect. This floating B&B is uniquely charming and a much more memorable lodging option than a regular hotel. Prices start at $120/night.
