When you think of Gretna, Nebraska, you may picture the spectacular Holy Family Shrine or the fantastic shopping outlets. But there’s a lot more to this little Sarpy County town – and in 2023, there will be even more to love about it. A massive recreation complex is planned for the town, and it will be amazing.
The growing community has some very big plans for the future. A 150-acre plot of land is being turned into a huge recreation complex for current and future residents to enjoy.

The project is currently underway as of August 2022 and is slated to be completed in the summer of 2023. Once it's finished, Gretna will have a huge gathering area that will provide fun and recreation for people of all ages.
Play areas for children, families, and dogs will allow everyone to enjoy the fresh air while burning off some extra energy. The indoor rec center will contain some of the activities, but it seems that most of the action will be outdoors.

Plenty of picnic shelters will give visitors a place to congregate and celebrate under the sun while being protected from the elements.
An 18-hole Frisbee golf course offers a unique way to get some exercise, but there will also be plenty of quiet places to simply sit and watch the scenery.
If your idea of relaxing is taking a stroll, going for a run, or pedaling along a nice, smooth trail, Gretna Crossing Park may just become your new favorite destination. The outdoor amphitheater will also provide a lovely place to catch a live music show or a play.
Sports enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the recreation complex will also include state-of-the-art baseball, soccer, softball, and football fields.
Batting cages are another part of the plan, so you know where to go if you need to get in some practice before your next game. The fishing pond will be the ideal place to escape to when you just need to unwind for a bit.
But one of the features we're most excited about is the state-of-the-art aquatic and recreation center. The aquatic center includes an indoor pool that local high school students will use for their daily practice.
There will also be plenty of time for families to swim in the indoor pool. When summer comes around, this awesome outdoor waterpark with a lazy river and kids' area is sure to be at the top of everyone's must-visit list!
