Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
If you ask someone who’s never been here before what they think Nebraska is like, they’ll probably mumble something like corn and flyover country, and honestly, that bothers me. The reason for this is obvious to anyone who has been here before: Nebraska is a beautiful state with plenty of things to do, see, and experience. With eight awe-inspiring state parks in Nebraska, you’ll never get bored – especially if you love the great outdoors. Let’s check out a lesser-known hidden gem of a park that rarely gets the credit it deserves: the wondrous paradise that is Niobrara State Park.
Niobrara State Park is located at a visually incredible place where the Niobrara and Missouri rivers merge.
It truly is some of the most beautiful landscape you'll see in the entire state of Nebraska, and all too often, it's overlooked in favor of larger, more popular parks.
And, boy, do folks never realize what they're missing.
Where some people would claim there's nothing but boring, flat farmland is instead a vibrant place with river valleys, gorges, lush greenery, gorgeous woods, and so much more.

The river lends itself to countless activities, like kayaking and canoeing.
Hiking is another must, and you'll find that the three trails winding throughout the park offer unique glimpses at the beauty of it all that no other spots do.
What it isn't low in, though, is awesomeness - wait until you see some of the places you'll be led by the beaten path. Please remember: take nothing but pictures, and leave nothing but footprints.
You'll find that there are numerous bridges crossing the river at various points throughout the park.
Sometimes, when the water is high, some of these bridges can be washed out - so please plan ahead and be weather-aware. Everyone will have a much better time, I promise!
Speaking of good times, camping at Niobrara State Park is a treat.
...just don't stay more than 14 consecutive days in a row at any one campsite. Be mindful, and enjoy - you deserve it.
To check out the available campsites and book yours (which I recommend doing ahead of time, even though this park’s a bit quieter than most), visit Reserve America. Planning to road trip it to the park? Check out our ultimate road trip packing list for ideas.
