If you like to eat on the go but can’t stand the thought of another drive-thru burger, this unique restaurant in Omaha is a welcome change. It serves the fragrant, spicy tastes of India – and you don’t even need to get out of your car to get it.
Welcome to Curry In A Hurry! The restaurant opened in late November 2019, in the shell of a former Taco John's. After searching for more than two years for the perfect location, the owners found this spot and set about turning it into an Indian comfort food destination.
The "in a hurry" part of the name isn't just a gimmick. When you're hungry but short on time, you can hit up the drive-thru for a fragrant and flavorful meal.
If you have a little more time, you can park the car and head inside. The dining room has been updated and upgraded; you'd never guess it used to be a fast-food Tex Mex spot.
This fun restaurant is owned by two women, Sue and San, who both have extensive experience in both cooking and running a food service business. The head chef, James, is a former executive chef in Arizona before coming on board to develop and refine the menu at Curry In A Hurry.
The menu isn't as extensive as you'd find at posh sit-down Indian restaurants, but that's by design. Everything is made fresh every day, and by focusing on a limited number of dishes they can ensure that each and every meal is delicious and healthy.
There are several curry options available in varying degrees of spiciness, and there's even a special menu section for vegan curries. But the most popular item on the menu is koftas, a side item consisting of fried potato and paneer (cottage cheese) balls.
Don't leave the kids out when you drive through or eat in! There's a kids' menu featuring a small curry bowl, a side dish, a dessert, and a drink. If your kids don't already love Indian food, they certainly will after eating here (and you don't even have to mention that the food is healthy!).
The idea for this unique Indian dining concept was a decade in the making, inspired by the owners’ lives in India prior to immigrating. They fondly remembered sipping authentic hot chai and enjoying kabobs, and they wanted to give Omahans the chance to experience these simple pleasures as well.
Curry In A Hurry is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. To learn more about this unique eatery, visit its website or Facebook page.
