As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Whether you grew up in the city or on a farm, there’s something magical about staying in a rural setting, surrounded by animals. This one spot, in particular, lets you stay in some of the coolest accommodations you’ve ever seen, and the neighbors are nothing short of enchanting.
Willow Valley Farms is located in Gretna, just a short drive outside of Omaha. You'd never know it was so close to the city, though.

This beautiful property is full of life, from the thick vegetation to the many animals that roam the farm - but we'll get back to those.

During your stay you'll enjoy some quiet time in one of two tiny houses. The tiny house experience is worth the visit in itself.
These mini abodes pack a whole lot of living space and a whole lot of personality into a minimal footprint. Each house has a queen bed and a sofa bed, sleeping a total of three guests.
These little buildings are beyond cozy. The quarters are close, but very inviting. You'll need to be fit enough to climb a ladder or navigate a narrow set of stairs to reach the bed in either house.
The tiny houses are located on a part of the property removed from the main house by quite a distance. You can decide whether you want to interact with your hosts; if not, you can simply relax and enjoy the seclusion and the sounds of nature.
You won't find TVs or wifi here, and getting a cell phone signal is hit or miss. When this workaholic writer stayed there last summer, it was a welcome reprieve from technology and a chance to unwind. Just walking around the property, listening to the wind in the trees and the chatter of the animals is a special treat.
You won't exactly be camping, though. The tiny houses have air conditioning, heating, indoor plumbing (including showers), and fridges. One of them includes a small one-burner electric stove.

One of the most memorable parts of your stay will be the goats. Willow Valley Farms has the world's largest herd of critically endangered San Clemente Island goats.

This particular breed of goat is unlike any other. They're light and graceful, with sweet temperaments and personalities that are uncannily like those of friendly dogs.

Interacting with the goats, chickens, and other animals isn't included in your stay or guaranteed. But if the owners have time and you happen to be around when they're doing chores, you may get to tag along while they tend to the animals.

Whether you get to interact with the goats or only observe them from outside their fenced area, you'll have an unforgettable experience here.

The tiny houses are available to rent in the warmer months; they’re currently closed for the winter but will be available for rent again beginning in mid-April. Book your stay in the “chic tiny house” here or the “modern loft tiny house” here.
