As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
In the age of Airbnbs, sophisticated dwellings in rustic settings have become a familiar sight all across Nebraska. There are few as distinctive as this one in the itty-bitty village of Crab Orchard, though. It was once a farm building that has been transformed into a gorgeous getaway for two.
Corn Crib Cottage is no clever recreation of a rustic building. It was an actual corn crib in its past life, but it's now one of the most unusual places to stay in Johnson County.
The cottage is located on 25 acres of land right next to a 34-acre lake. It's one of three rental properties offered by Front Porch Vineyards, a scenic vineyard and event venue.
While you're a guest here, you're welcome to use the lake for boating after the property owners approve your boat. It's a relaxing place to do some fishing - but keep in mind that the lake is catch-and-release only.
The absolutely beautiful surrounding area features a fire pit for making your evenings magical. The cottage has a balcony overlooking the grounds so you can take in the sights while making yourself right at home.
The cozy getaway is only big enough for two people, making it the perfect romantic getaway or solo escape. There's one queen-size bed, and there is heating and air conditioning to make the cottage comfy year-round.
As you can imagine, the unique shape of the cottage's interior makes for some unusual architectural details. Still, the former corn crib manages to exude a sophisticated rustic style that's perfect for snuggling up in.
A little kitchenette will help you prepare some light meals or snacks. There's a microwave oven, a fridge, and a coffee maker along with some dishes. There's a grill outside along with some patio furniture if you prefer to enjoy a cookout; just remember to be a good guest and clean the grill after you use it!
A neat little table for two is the perfect place to chat over a cup of morning coffee or get a bit of work done. There's even a TV if you somehow tire of the majestic sights outdoors. Don't expect to find a WiFi signal, though - that's not an option out here.
There's another interesting repurposed farm structure on the property in the form of the grain bin bar. It's only available when you rent the venue for a wedding or other event, but it's a cool sight to see if you're wandering the beautiful grounds.
You can book your own stay in the Corn Crib Cottage on its Airbnb page right here. Learn more about Front Porch Vineyards, including its popular event space, on its website. Have you ever stayed in this wonderfully unusual building? Would you want to? Sound off in the comments!
