On a summer day that’s just too darn hot to do anything else – or during one of our legendary summer storms – curling up with a good book is a great way to spend the day. In fact, reading is a terrific activity at any time! Book lovers will be thrilled to know that there’s a festival coming up to celebrate everything about books and literature.
The first Nebraska Book Festival was held in 1991. Since then, it's been held at colleges all across the state as well as several other non-college venues. There were a few years with no event, so 2018 will mark the 25th festival.
According to the Nebraska Book Festival's website, the purpose of the festival is "to celebrate Nebraska’s literary heritage and contemporary authors and to stimulate public interest in books, reading, and the written word."
The event brings authors, poets, aspiring authors, and readers together in a unique venue to discuss literature in all its forms. The Nebraska Writers Guild will hold lectures and workshops this year to help aspiring authors hone their craft.
Authors will also give talks to the public about their work. This is an excellent opportunity for book lovers to meet their favorite Nebraskan authors and learn more about the stories behind the stories.
Most events will be held at the UNL City Campus Union at 1400 R Street in Lincoln. The opening and closing events will be at the Center for Great Plains, 1155 Q Street.
The 2018 Nebraska Book Festival will be held August 25th, with the opening event taking place on the 24th and the closing event on the 26th. Learn more about the festival on its website or Facebook page.
