We could spend days discussing all of our favorite places in Nebraska and explaining why this is the best place in the country. But since you’re here, you probably already know all of that. But if you’re looking for the absolute best spot to visit in our beautiful home, check out this small city that you can’t help but love.
Of course, everyone's idea of the "best town" will be different - but Valentine is home to some of the most beloved outdoor attractions and activities in the whole state.
The natural beauty in and around Valentine is legendary. This is where people go when they need to get away from everyday life and reconnect with nature.
There are two wildlife refuges just outside of the city. Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge and Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge are both home to plentiful wildlife and some awesome outdoor recreation.
Take a walk on the Cowboy Trail to experience Nebraska hiking at its best. The country's longest rails-to-trails conversion will take you on a spectacular journey, whether you decide to walk the whole way or just a short distance.
And of course, the Niobrara River is one of the most popular tubing, canoeing, and kayaking destinations in Nebraska. The scenic river is absolutely breathtaking no matter the season.
History lovers will find lots of adventures in Valentine, too. Centennial Hall, built in 1897, is a museum illustrating the history of the city in a former schoolhouse.
When you get a little peckish after a day spent outside, there are several restaurants that are perfect for refueling. The Coachlight Cafe is a classic diner serving the kind of food that fills your belly and your soul.
Seasonal activities abound in this Sandhills town. Stop by in late summer for the Nebraska Star Party at Merritt Reservoir. Way out here away from the city lights, you can see millions of stars.
