It’s almost always the smallest restaurants that serve the best food, don’t you think? This small Lincoln establishment has developed something of a cult following for its incredible fried chicken and perfectly cooked ribs. And those fans are really onto something – this place turns out some of the best homestyle soul food in Nebraska.
Blink and you might miss GrannyWeavs Soul Food and Catering. This little strip-mall joint Is unassuming on the outside, but inside you'll find some of the best fried chicken you've ever tasted.
This locally-owned restaurant was a labor of love for George Weaver, Jr., who opened it to honor his late mother. Her dream had always been to open a restaurant, but sadly, she passed away before realizing that dream.
Today, the family still holds onto their beloved matriarch's core values of hard work and determination. The love shines through in every bite. This is truly soul food - meals that warm your soul as well as your belly.
If you ask 10 people what their favorite thing is at GrannyWeavs, we bet you at least half of them would say it's the fried chicken. This crispy-on-the-outside, juicy-on-the-inside chicken puts all others to shame.
The restaurant's menu is kind of small, and that's how you know this place means business. It specializes in a few things, and it does those things very well.
The fried chicken is only one part of this delicious experience. The side dishes that come heaped up on the plate next to your entree are good enough to be meals on their own.
You can choose from corn on the cob, potato salad, coleslaw, collard greens, sweet potato, fried okra, baked mac & cheese, baked beans, red beans and rice, and french fries. Whew - is your stomach growling yet?
If you're not here for the fried chicken, chances are you're here for the ribs or the brisket sandwich. It's impossible to decide which to get, so maybe you should just get a little of everything and have leftovers for the next few days.
Just like your own grandmother, GrannyWeav's doesn't skimp when it comes to dessert. These funnel cake fries are like heaven in a takeout box, but be sure to also try the other selections, including the highly-reviewed sweet potato pie.
If you can't come in and stay for a while, you can get your meal to go or order it for pickup. And if you just have too many people in your party to fit into the tiny dining area, GrannyWeavs also caters.
