We’re all faced with choices every day. We can stay at home or go out exploring, ignore other people or make new friends, make our community a better place or not. When you’re in Nebraska, some of these choices are no-brainers – these are the best decisions you can make as a Nebraskan.
1. Get out of the cities.
Whether you're a resident or a visitor, there's nothing like visiting a small town to recharge your soul.
2. Get off of the interstate.
It's easy to be bored and frustrated when you're driving through Nebraska if you stay on the interstate the whole way. Re-route and take some rural highways, drive through some picturesque towns, and see the scenery that you just can't see from I-80.
3. Get outside.
Nebraska is so full of opportunities to explore nature. It would be a shame to pass them up!
4. Get up early to watch the sun rise.
There's no sunrise like a Nebraska sunrise. Make the decision to wake up a little earlier to see it - it'll warm your heart all day.
5. Get a meal at a locally-owned restaurant.
Skip the chains and the fast food and visit one of Nebraska's many, many family-owned places. Pictured here is the highly-rated Black Crow in Beatrice.
6. Get in the car and drive one of our scenic byways.
Do you ever drive just to see the sights? Nebraska has 11 stunning scenic byways to choose from - hop on one and see just how diverse and lovely our state is.
7. Get involved in your community.
Volunteering is a terrific decision for anyone to make. It strengthens community bonds, improves the place you live, and may even help you learn a new skill or make new friends.
8. Get yourself to a museum.
We have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to museums in the Cornhusker State. Make the decision to go take in some art, culture, and/or history at any of them.
9. Get out of your routine and go someplace new.
So many of us just go to the same old places over and over. Try seeing a part of Nebraska you've never seen before! Pictured here is Happy Jack Chalk Mine in Scotia.
10. Get into the water.
There are so many lakes and rivers to explore - and so many fun activities on all of them - that water lovers will never be bored.
11. Give thanks to a farmer or rancher.
It's always a good decision to show gratitude to those who make a difference in your (or everyone's) life.
12. Get an annual state parks pass.
Pay one price, one time per year and get admission to all of our state parks. It's one of the best deals in the state.
13. Get wild with the characters at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo.
Whether you have to drive five minutes or five hours to see it, the zoo is always a fantastic decision - it's fun for everyone in the family.
14. Get into a conversation with a new friend.
Introduce yourself to a neighbor, colleague, or stranger. Show off that Nebraska friendliness or, if you aren't from here, watch it in action as the other person happily chats you up.
15. Get over the stereotypes.
Don't let it get you down when people assume Nebraska and everyone in it is boring. We're definitely more than cornfields and flat prairies.
