When you think of parasailing, you probably think of tropical resorts or at least a coastal destination. But you can enjoy this memorable experience right here in Nebraska, and it’s one of the greatest things you’ll do this summer.
Lake McConaughy - affectionally nicknamed "Big Mac" - is the state's largest lake. It covers more than 55 square miles and attracts visitors from all over Nebraska and surrounding states.
As the premier outdoor destination in western Nebraska, Lake Mac is full of fun things to do, and some of them may be surprising. Big Mac Parasailing is a recreation company offering one of the most unusual, thrilling experiences: parasailing excursions on the big lake.
Parasailing is one of those fun summer activities that most people are surprised to find in Nebraska. But the lake is huge and the water is perfect for going up into the air on this breathtaking adventure.
Parasailing may look a little intimidating, but there's almost no effort involved. According to Big Mac Parasailing, "if you can sit, you can fly." Even if you're a little nervous, the incredible views while you're up in the air will put you right at ease.
You'll set out on a boat with an experienced captain and crew who will explain the whole process and make sure you're safely secured in your harness before going up. The excursion lasts for about an hour, including everyone's flying time. The boat holds up to six passengers who all take turns flying two or three at a time.
Private charters are available if you and your group want the opportunity to fly for as long as your hearts desire. Wouldn't this be a wildly unique way to celebrate a birthday or other special occasion?
You never have to touch the water if you don't want to; the method used by Big Mac Parasailing lets you take off from and land on the boat. If you want to dip down to dunk your feet, though, the captain would be happy to accommodate you!
If you're not up for parasailing, you can go along as a passenger just to watch. You can also take advantage of Big Mac Parasailing's other offerings, including jet ski, kayak, ski boat, and pontoon rentals.
Parasailing costs $65 for adults and $50 for kids 6-12. If you want to ride along on the boat but don’t plan to fly, you can do so for just $10. You’ll need reservations, and it’s recommended to plan at least a week or two ahead due to limited space. Get hours, directions, and more information on Big Mac Parasailing’s website or Facebook page.
Parasailing isn’t the first activity that comes to mind when you think about Nebraska – and neither are these 14 unexpected but awesome things to do in the Cornhusker State.
