In the midst of rolling hills and Nebraska farmland, and just up the road from Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park, this old green-roofed red barn is full of fun surprises. The first surprise is the down-home restaurant inside.
You wouldn't find Green Gables of Pleasant Valley by accident...unless you're headed to or from Ashfall. It happens to be right between Highway 20 and Ashfall, so you'll pass by it when coming or going.
It doesn't look like an old barn on the inside, however. The bright, open dining room is decorated with antiques, old photos, maps, and all kinds of knick-knacks.
But the real star of the show is the homemade pie. Even if you aren't hungry after your visit to Ashfall, find room for a piece of this pie - or just take one home with you.
You can find Green Gables of Pleasant Valley at the intersection of 517th Ave and 865th Road, north of Royal. Or just look for the signs leading to Ashfall and the road will take you right by the big red barn. Keep in mind that the business is seasonal and closes in the winter.
